South Dakota Woman Finds Abandoned Crate And Seven Puppies Fighting To Survive

Sharing is caring!

Some rescues begin with a call for help. Others begin with a quiet moment that feels wrong. For Jordan Fiegen of South Dakota, it was the second kind.

What started as a normal cold morning near her parents’ home quickly turned into a life changing rescue she will never forget.

A Cold Morning Walk Leads To A Disturbing Discovery

The air was sharp and unforgiving as Jordan walked through a nearby trailer park. That is when she noticed a crate sitting alone.

It looked out of place and neglected. Trusting her instincts, she walked closer to see what was inside.

When she peered in, her heart dropped. Seven tiny puppies were packed tightly together, trembling and soaked.

Rainwater from the night before had filled part of the crate, leaving the puppies cold, muddy, and silent.

Their once white fur was stained and matted, and their small bodies barely moved.

The puppies did not cry or bark. Their silence was the most painful part. It felt as if they no longer had the energy to ask for help.

A Race Against Time To Save Freezing Puppies

Jordan felt a mix of relief and heartbreak. Relief that they were still alive.

Heartbreak knowing how close they were to losing their lives.

The March cold made it clear there was no time to waste.

She quickly gathered the crate and rushed the puppies indoors. With help from her family, she began warming them right away.

Each puppy was gently bathed in warm water to remove the mud and cold.

One by one, they were wrapped in blankets and held close until their shaking slowed.

As their body temperatures rose, something beautiful happened. The puppies relaxed.

Clean, dry, and warm, their white coats began to show again.

Exhaustion took over, and they fell asleep in a pile, safe for the first time.

Learning The Puppies’ Past And Securing Their Future

Jordan soon learned the puppies belonged to a dog living in the same trailer park.

When she was finally able to reach the owner, they agreed to surrender the litter.

It was a difficult situation, but one that opened the door to a better future for the puppies.

Looking at the sleeping pups, Jordan could not hold back her emotions.

She later shared with The Dodo that she cried thinking about everything they had already endured in such a short life.

Determined to do right by them, she contacted Almost Home Canine Rescue in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The rescue immediately stepped in and agreed to take the puppies under their care.

Once the puppies were strong enough, Jordan brought them to the veterinarian.

They were treated for fleas and worms and given a clean bill of health considering what they had survived.

The seven siblings were named Bert, Bluey, Ernie, Bingo, Bear, Nova, and Kona.

They were placed into three loving foster homes where they could receive proper care, attention, and socialization.

In foster care, the puppies began to change quickly. They gained strength, confidence, and curiosity.

Their playful sides emerged, replacing the fear and exhaustion that once defined them.

Jordan shared that it was incredible to see how far they had come.

From barely moving in a wet crate to bouncing around with energy, the transformation was proof of what warmth and compassion can do.

Soon, they will begin the search for permanent families who will love and protect them.

Their story began in heartbreak, but it is ending with hope. And that hope exists because someone cared enough to act.
